Due of the tundra’s climate, the village was unable to sustain itself. To survive the harsh weather, Vandre had his monster familiars hunt down meat for the villagers, and he often flew to the mountains on his wyvern companion Uruluk to gather fruits and vegetables. It was incredibly difficult, however, for them to procure various other necessities, such as spices, clothes, and building materials for shelters. Due to this issue, Vandre had regularly snuck into nearby villages to buy any necessary goods. During one of those trips, Vandre noticed there were posters all over the village he was visiting that were detailing the new policies the demon lord was putting into place, but built into them was a subtle message to Vandre and the others that explained how Rasul was gathering more test subjects for his experiments, and that he’d only stop if Vandre turned himself in. Against the advice of the rest of the Schnee clan, Vandre headed back to the demon lord’s castle in an attempt to convince Rasul to stop his experiments. He was confident that even if he failed, he’d at least be able to free the test subjects from Rasul and escape due to how strong he had become over the years. Vandre, however, made one miscalculation: Rasul had grown far stronger than Vandre had thought possible. Rasul was in possession of a bunch of powerful [[Artifact]]s, and his mana pool had increased as well, as well as his magical proficiency becoming much greater than before. Vandre was captured, but left behind his monster slime Batlam behind in order to seek help from the [[Liberators]] group that the Schnee clan learned of at some point.

Backstory

Vandre is the second son of the demon lord that ruled the Igdol Empire. His mother was a dragonwoman named Sasrika Schnee, who was captured by the demon lord and forced to bare his child. Vandre and his mother spent the early years of his childhood in the demon lord's dungeon. At age six, however, Vandre discovered his ability to use Metamorphosis Magic, and so both he and his mother, as well at the demon lord's super soldier test subjects that Vandre befriended in the dungeon, were permitted to be free while under the demons' supervision if Vandre used his magic to create an army of super soldiers for the demon lord.

After Vandre created an army for his father, the demons waged war with the humans, with the end result being a draw. Unsatisfied with the outcome, Vandre's father raped Sasrika in the hopes of producing another child that could use Ancient Magic. Vadre was enraged after learning what happened and immediately transformed into a dragon for the first time. He attempted to kill his father, but was unsuccessful in his efforts. He was was about to be killed, but was saved after his mother sacrificed herself to protect him. The trauma of his mother's death emotionally scarred Vandre to the point that he could not longer transform. It was also due to his weakened mental state that his father decided to spare him since he was now more easily manipulatable, with the only source of comfort being his older half-brother Rasul Alva Igdol, who opposed their father's ideals, and instead sought peace with humanity.

When Rasul became the next ruler of the demons, his personality suddenly changed and he resumed his father's work into waging war with the humans. Vandre pleaded with his brother to return to his former self, but Rasul ignored him and told him that his kindness was just a means of using him. Upon hearing this, Vandre had broken down in tears, to which Rasul then sneered and sent him to the dungeons. Fearing for the safety of the test subjects that he considered to be his family, Vandre had broken them out and they all escaped to the Obsidian Tundra. They spent a few years living in hiding and had established a village to live in, as well as all of them taking the last name "Schnee" for themselves in honor of Vandre and his mother.

Due of the tundra’s climate, the village was unable to sustain itself.
