Background[]
Taichi was born into a family of farmers in a rural town in Japan. His family lived nextdoor to Aiko Hatayama's family, and the two of them often played together as children. After graduating high school, Taichi went to university in another prefecture, and later got himself a job. When Aiko disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Taichi resigned from his job over the sorrow he faced from it. At the same time, his father had been momentarily hospitalized, and Taichi used that as an excuse to return home, when he then took over running his family's farm.
Chronology[]
When Aiko returned to her hometown after the adventures she experienced in another world, Taichi approached her while she was making her way towards a summer festival. She was surprised by Taichi's sudden appearance due to having been lost in thought before he escorted her the rest of the trip. After some time enjoying the festival, when the two of them were alone at a shrine, Taichi attempted to convince Aiko to resign from her current teaching job and return home for good, but she refused and expressed her desire to support her students that were also sent with her to another world. Taichi, however, knew that Aiko's true motive was to stay with her secret lover, who was also her student. Taichi tried to persuade her to end the relationship by rationalizing the immorality of being with her student romantically, and then asked her to marry him instead, much to Aiko's shock. Taichi was so aggressive to the point that he was practically restraining her by her shoulders that all Aiko could do was utter the name of her lover "Hajime." This upset Taichi, and attempted to move in closer to Aiko, but Aiko shouted Hajime's name once more. To both Taichi and Aiko's shock, Hajime appeared the moment after she said his name. He then immediately grabbed Taichi by his neck and flung him away from Aiko. The force of Hajime's throw set him flying at an incredible speed before he landed on the ground and rolled several times, but remained unharmed due to Hajime being careful with his strength. While Hajime was consoling Aiko, he and Taichi were glaring at each other. Aiko told Hajime that there was no romance between her and Taichi, which only served to hurt Taichi emotionally. Once Hajime managed to help Aiko ease her insecurities about their relationship, Taichi demanded that he leave Aiko for good. Hajime was unperturbed by Taichi's words and threatened to kill him if he even attempted to flirt with Aiko. He then moved behind Aiko and proceeded to grope her chest in front of Taichi until he pulled out a necklace Aiko was wearing with a ring in it that symbolized her as his wife. Before Taichi could form a response, Hajime proclaimed that Taichi had no one to blame but himself for Aiko not being in a relationship with him, despite all the chances he had to ask her out, but was hesitant to do so. Aiko then freed herself from Hajime and told Taichi that she appreciated his concern for her, but she had chosen to be with Hajime. Taichi tried to once again convince her to end her current relationship for the same reason as sated before, but Aiko had resolved herself to be with Hajime and had even called herself "a wicked woman" for being with him. Taichi then glared fiercely at Hajime for sometime, but he was not bothered by it. Having realized that he couldn't compete with Hajime, Taichi left the two of them without saying anything.
When demon-worshipping cultists were attacking the homes of the Returnees, Taichi was had been visiting Aiko's family during the incident. Thanks to the barrier artifact installed in the Hatayama home, Taichi and the others were safe for a while. Aiko then appeared soon after using the "Gate Key" teleportation Artifact to arrive at her home and then unleashed a grim reaper golem "Kangaroo" to attack the cultists. Before that, however, it attacked Taichi and knocked him out on Aiko's command due to him being unaware of the otherworldly powers that she possessed.
Relationships[]
Aiko Hatayama[]
Taichi and Aiko were childhood friends. The two of them played with each other a lot, and went to to same school from kindergarten up to high school. The only time they didn't hang out together was when both of them entered puberty. When they became adults, their relationship was friendly enough that would get together when they both visited their hometown during the holidays. When Aiko disappeared after she and her class were summoned to another world, Taichi became utterly distraught, that he resigned from his job and returned home. After Aiko returned to Japan, Taichi confessed his feelings towards her and wished to marry her, but Aiko refused due to being in a relationship with Hajime. This put a strain on their friendship, but the two would eventually reconcile.
Hajime Nagumo[]
Hajime is annoyed by Taichi and has repeatedly threatened to kill him for his efforts to be in a relationship with Aiko, but holds back out of consideration for Aiko.
