Etymology[]
- The name "Rob" means "bright fame, shining glory." It is derived from the Old High German name "Hrōdebert," composed of two elements: "*hrōþiz," meaning "praise, fame, glory, renown, honor" and "*berhtaz," meaning "light, bright, clear, shining one."
- Rob's surname "Garret" is one of the many baptismal surnames to have been derived from the popular names "Gerard" and "Gerald" in 12th-Century England. Both of these names were taken to Britain by the conquering Normans and are the Old French versions of ancient Germanic personal names. Gerhard is composed of two elements "*gaizaz," meaning "spear, pike, javelin" and "*harduz / *hardu-," meaning "hard, strong, brave, fearless, powerful one."
