Reinheit was initially a loyal follower of the Holy Church, but eventually decided to oppose them in order to support Laus Barn.
Background[]
Reinheit was born in the Elbard Theocracy's countryside. At some point, he was discovered to be an Atavist, and was invited to the theocracy's capital to join the ranks of the Holy Church. As the people of his village cheered him on as he left his home, Reinheit vowed to make them all proud. However, his magical abilities were considered the weakest among the Atavists, which ultimately ended any chance of being promoted to an important position within the church. Before long, he started to worry that he might end up letting his village down. Fortunately for him, he was selected by Commander of the church's Holy Templar Knights Laus Barn to be his gatekeeper, to which he happily accepted.
Chronology[]
One evening, Reinheit greeted Laus as the latter was returning home after attending an important meeting with the leaders of the Holy Church. After noticing the fatigue on Laus' face, Reinheit asked him if he was alright, but Laus assured him that he was fine while expressing his opinion that he was just getting soft. Reinheit attempted to cheer Laus up by affirming his belief that Laus was still strong (unaware that the source of Laus' weariness was him having a realization of how corrupt the Holy Church actually was) and the two headed for the entrance to Laus' home.
Over a month later, Reinheit was approached by Laus after he and the rest of the church's knights were forced to retreat, after they were defeated in battle with the Haltina Republic. Reinheit did no recognize Laus at firs due to him wearing a cloak, and took a fighting stance against him, but immediately ceased hostilities when Laus identified himself. When Laus wished to see his family. Reinheit explained that they were at the Holy Church's Main Cathedral, and that they had visited frequently to pray for Laus' safe return. Laus then decided to head there and asked Reinheit to accompany him. As they headed towards the church, Reinheit grew more curious at Laus' unusual behaviour. Laus then lead him to a alleyway and privately asked him if would be willing to sacrifice his family if the church told him to in a hypothetical situation, to which Reinheit hesitantly replied by saying that he would if its was for the greater good. Laus was satisfied with Reinheit's honesty, but this served to only confuse the young knight further and asked Laus what had happened to him while he away after seeing him in an unusually cheery demeanor. After Laus explained that the church lost their war with the republic, Reinheit suspected that Laus had gained something even more important than victory to him. Laus confirmed Reinheit's suspicions and the two continued heading towards the church.
When they arrived at the cathedral, Laus gave Reinheit some parting words by telling him to do what his heart felt right from that point on, much to Reinheit's confusion. The two of them entered and were approached by the apostle Hearst. She had. Laus'S youngest son Sharm brought to him in severely injured state and order Laus to use his magic to brainwash Sharm into worshiping their god Ehit after resisting all previous efforts to make him do so. This prompted Laus to immediately attack Hearst and the church's knights that escorted Sharm, in order to rescue his son. Laus then healed him with his magic before calling out to Reinheit for his help. Reinheit was stunned from watching the recent turn of events, but he regained himself and responded by attacking the Holy Church's Paladins Commander Darrion Kaus with a "Celestial Flash" attack. Laus then flung his son towards Reinheit, so that the two of them could escape while he would engage church's forces. As they fled, Sharm begged Reinheit to go back to rescue his father, but he didn't want Laus' sacrifice to be in vain. Just then, Reinheit was attacked by Darrion. After stabbing Reinheit with his Divine Spear, Darrion offered to spare Reinheit if he handed over Sharm, but he refused out of his own desire to help those that were in need of help. Darrion effortlessly managed to severely injure Reinheit and proceeded to capture Sharm by grabbing the scruff of his shirt and headed back to the church. It was then that Reinheit managed to awaken the true power of his special magic "Pure Soul" and prompted Darrion's Holy Sword artifact to approach him on its own. It managed to heal him, and gave him the strength to fight back against Darrion. As Reinheit charged in with his new weapon, Darrion managed to block him with his Divine Spear. The battle soon ended with both of them mortally wounding each other with a single stab. As Reinheit laid dying, a distraught Sharm came running over to him in an attempt to save him. Reinheit used his remaining strength to tell Sharm to head out and find the person that had inspired Laus to stand up against the church, believing that they would be able to help the boy. Sharm had no idea how to find them, but Reinheit assured him that he would succeed because he was Laus' son. Hearing this gave Sharm the courage to venture out on his own and thanked Reinheit far all the he did for him. As he was about to leave, he was blocked by Darrion, who somehow still had enough life left in him to fight. As Darrion was prepared to kill both of them, Laus arrived at the last second and killed him with a lethal punch in the face, after having escaped the church's forces at the cost of his left arm. Laus healed up Reinheit after a tear-filled reunion with Sharm. Before Sharm or Reinheit could say anything, Laus told them that they needed to hide from the church. Sharm then gave the Holy Sword to Reineit and all three of them fled while Sharm and Laus were supporting Reinheit.
