The Northern Mountain Range (
Layout[]

The Northern Mountain Range spans horizontally throughout the majority of the northern edge of Tortus' mainland. It's comprised of countless mountains that range from 1000 meters to 8000 meters above sea level. The flora and environment varies drastically from each mountain, whereas one mountain's landscape would be that of a dense jungle, another mountain may resemble a desolate wasteland. The number of mountains is so vast that no matter how many mountains one scales, they would only view a sea of mountains extending infinitely northward. In addition, the mountains were home to many monsters that grew stronger the further north one travels. It was also the original home to the Dragonmen Tribe's kingdom before being forced into exile by Ehit's followers.
The highest mountain in the first row was the Divine Mountain where the Holy Church’s Main Cathedral was located.
History[]
During the earliest years of civilization in Tortus, the great spirit that controlled the weather Raydia was killed in the Northern Mountain Range while fighting a group of beings from another world. Her death caused the region to experience an everlasting change in the weather, while the rest of Tortus' climate remained stagnant.[1]
Many ambitious adventurers have tried mapping the entire mountain range throughout the years, but no one had managed to reach the fifth row due to the number of strong monsters that resided deep within.
The Liberator Mikaela Eifield previously lived in the Northern Peaks with a band of pagans, but they were forced to flee their home after the Holy Church discovered them and branded them heretics.[2]
When the dragonmen were persecuted by Ehit's followers, the survivors fled the Northern Mountain Range, with their entire kingdom having been completely wiped out.
Over 500 years later, when Ehit summoned the Heroes of Earth, Yukitoshi Shimizu travelled to the Northern Mountain Range alone while he was a part of his teacher Aiko Hatayama's entourage, and used his dark magic in order to control some of the monsters that lived there. During this time, Yukitoshi was approached by a demon named Reiss that offered him fame and glory amongst the Demons in exchange for killing Aiko, to which Yukitoshi agreed and had managed to amass an army of over 60,000 monsters that he unleashed on Ur in order to kill Aiko. However, his entire army was wiped out by Hajime Nagumo and his companions.
The surviving monsters fled back to the mountains and fought amongst themselves due to the leaders of their packs having been killed during the battle of Ur. This massive bloodshed caused the awakening off an ancient ruin that belonged to the otherworldly beings from long ago, deep within the mountains. It unleashed three powerful golems that contained the essence of three of Tortus' guardian spirits Grandia, Foldia and Raydia, with the ruin itself being powered by the remaining spirit Uldia. They created a massive nonstop rainfall that spanned all the way to Ur. Furthermore, they were harvesting part of the souls of anyone wishing the area that had any combat potential, and used that to empower either themselves or other golems within the ruin. One month after their awakening, the golems were defeated by Hajime and his companions, while the ruin was destroyed by a flood caused by the ensuing battle.[1]
