Kelvin (ケルビン, Kerubin?) was an Atavist that worked for Baharl Devault in Andika.

Appearance[]

Kelvin was a large man with a muscular build and ultramarine hair that was receding.

He wore a vest with tattered sleeves.

Personality[]

Kelvin was hotheaded and eager to fight.

Background[]

Kelvin was branded a heretic by the Holy Church due to the nature of his special magic. He fled to Andika and was taken in by Baharl Devault, the ruler of the island city of outlaws Andika, with whom he has worked for ever since.

Chronology[]

One night, Kelvin was among Baharl's henchmen that accompanied him to check on his daughter Diene in an ancient ruin deep below the city. Baharl discovered the ruins were used to seal a giant monster known as the "Divine Beast Leviathan", and had Diene use her special magic "Renewal" to restore a damaged fresco within the ruins in order to learn any secrets that he hoped would tell her how to control it. He was hoping to use it against band of pirates had been continuously raiding Andika (as well as any other outside threat). Despite her efforts, however, Diene, was unable to learn to obtain new information from what she had restored thus far. Kelvin and Baharl's other top lieutenant Ace advised their boss against attempting to revive such a dangerous monster, with Kelvin personally volunteering to attack the pirates, but Barharl denied it. Ace also argued against letting him fight be claiming that they had already hired many other pirates and mercenaries he had hired to hunt them, but none ever returned (while also making fun of him for his lack of intelligence). Having noticed his daughter's apparent exhaustion from her work, Baharl asked her how many times she used her magic during the day, to which claimed three times, as per his orders. Kelvin then explained that she used some of her mana earlier that day to heal some injured miners in the tunnels above the ruins. Despite this selfless deed, Barharl slapped Diene and and berated her for using her magic without his permission out of fear of being discovered and captured by the Holy Church. He then gave her an object for her to view that contained a recording of an incident in the high-end casino at Andika's inner ring, then ordered her to go to her room among the underground tunnels. Kelvin warned Baharl that treating his daughter so harshly would cause her to have him, but he just scoffed and acted like he didn't care.

A month later, Kelvin was among Baharl's associates that had gathered in his office for Ace' birthday party. Just before Ace's party could begin, they were suddenly approached by the Holy Church's templar knights commander Laus Barn (which was actually an astral projection of him). Laus explained that his mission was to eliminate the pirates that were plaguing Andika, as well as give Baharl a message from the pope about reminding him of where his true loyalties should lie. Aware of its meaning, Laus asked Baharl if he had something that he should tell the church, but Baharl claimed he was hiding nothing. Laus gave Baharl one final warning about being loyal before disappearing right infant of everyone. Baharl knew full well that the pope was aware that he had kept his daughter and her powers a secret from the church.

Kelvin's death

Kelvin's death

When Andika was under attack by the pirates after having forced to churches knights to retreat, Baharl attempted to have Diene escape in order to avoid her being captured by the church, who was the pirates' co-conspirator in the attack. Baharl had ordered Kelvin to be part of Diene's escort while they were headed towards their hidden escape route that contained a boat. As they were about to escape, Baharl decided to stay behind to buy them time. He told Kelvin to keep her safe and that it was his last request of him, to which Kelvin agreed despite to wanting to leave Baharl behind. They were suddenly approached by Ace minutes later (who was actually the apostle Ahat in disguise) and claimed that Diene should use her magic to free the leviathan that was sealed by Andika. Realizing that something was different about Ace, Baharl and his men barricaded themselves in front of Diene. It was then that Ace stated that he was simply doing what his god commanded. Having realized that Ace had betrayed him by revealing Diene's existence to the church, Baharl was prepared to have Kelvin to kill him, but Ace had somehow managed to severely wound Baharl by piercing his chest bare-handed. Unaware of Ace's true identity, Kelvin, angered at his friend's apparent betrayal, was prepared to kill him and used his special magic "White Claw" to transform his arms for battle, but they were instantly cut of by Ahat bare-handed, and was killed after being impaled through the stomach.

After Baharl was healed from his fight with Ahat by Diene's older half-sister Meiru Melusine, he walked over to Kelvin's body and commended him for his service before promising to meet him again in the afterlife someday.
