Jose Rancaid (ホセ・ランカイド, Hose Rankaido?) was the Vice-Commander of Heiligh Kingdom's knights, but was killed by Eri Nakamura and later bound to her as a zombie through her 'Spirit Binding' magic.

Appearance

Jose was an adult male with short light-brown hair and blue eyes.

Personality

Jose was a loyal and devoted knight, but was not afraid to express his own opinions that may have contradicted what his superiors thought.

Chronology

After the students of Earth were attacked by the demon Cattleya in the Great Orcus Labyrinth, as well as subsequently being rescued by Hajime Nagumo, many of the knights and nobles within the Heiligh Kingdom started to behave strangely. It had reached a point the Knight Commander Meld Loggins grew more suspicious and believed it to be the demons infiltrating the kingdom to prepare for an attack. He and Jose had a clandestine meeting by the palace cemetery one night in order to assess the situation. Although Jose also noticed a change in the knights behavior, he attributed it to fatigue and low morale due to the near defeat that was handed to them by the demons. Meld ordered Jose to investigate the source of the strange behavior with the kingdom's best dark mages, and to find any countermeasures by exploring the kingdom's treasury for any artifacts that may be of use.

When Meld returned to his room after his meeting with Jose, he was approached by Daisuke Hiyama, who claimed that he needed some advice from Meld. It was then that he was attacked by Jose and several other knights, who also appeared to have the same symptoms as the other knights. As Meld was holding off the knights, Daisuke attempted to attack him from behind, but was unsuccessful. Meld managed to knock out the knights, but the immediately got back up and were reinforced with more knights until he was surrounded, but he managed to escape by jumping out the window. Unfortunately, Meld was approached by a mysterious woman and proceeded to kill him.

When the demons launched a massive invasion on the kingdom, the students met up with the knights at the palace courtyard in order to prepare for battle. Jose was explaining the situation to everyone before preparing to head out to battle. As Jose was talking, the students were gradually being separated from each other until each of them was surrounded by a platoon of knights. It was then that Jose unleashed flash of light that disoriented the students long enough for them to be ambushed by the knights. After all of the students were restrained, it was revealed that one of the students, Eri Nakamura, had betrayed her classmates, and that she was controlling the knights with her necromancy magic after she had killed them some time ago. Jose and the other knights' bodies were completely destroyed when an enraged Hajime arrived after witnessing the death of Kaori Shirasaki and used his gatling gun "Metzelei" on them. Soon after, Hajime would force the demons to retreat after obliterating their advanced forces with his satellite laser "Hyperion."

In the days following the demon's invasion, Jose and all those who died during the attack had their names written on the kingdom's Cenotaph of Souls monument, as a way to honor them. Jose's position as Vice-Commander was succeeded by Neyto Komold.

Relationships

Meld Loggins

Jose's superior. As his right-hand man, Jose did his best to support Meld, but would offer a different opinion from Meld's at times. This was not due to Jose showing his disrespect for Meld, but rather to offer alternate viewpoints and contradict any potential flaws in his commander’s reasoning. Meld would typically to push his administrative duties onto Jose.
