Jin Vanton (ジン・バントン, Jin Banton?) is an elder of the beastman nation Verbergen, and the former leader of the bearman's Vanton Clan. Jin attempted to attack Hajime, but was easily defeated and suffered severe injuries that will never fully heal.

Appearance

Jin is tall with a very thick build. Like all members of his race, he has a pair of bear ears.

Personality

Jin is rash and tends to act on his emotions. He hates humans to the point that he threatens to execute Ulfric for inviting Hajime into Verbergen.

He cares greatly about the beastman nation, but does not respect its ancient laws about treating those that managed to complete the Great Labyrinths with respect. Even so, he still has the respect of many of Verbergen's beastmen.

Chronology

Jin and the other elders of Verbergen banished the Haulia Tribe for concealing the existence of the "cursed child" Shea due to her ability to manipulate mana.

When Verbergen's elder chief Ulfric Heipyst invited Hajime Nagumo, Yue and the Haulia Tribe in order to be allowed passage to the Great Labyrinth that resided in the Sea of Trees, Jin and the other elders immediately expressed their disapproval at allowing them to attend due to their prejudice against humans, as well as the Haulia Tribe having been exiled. Jin went so far as to threaten to execute Ulfric for treason, but Ulfric calmly responded that he was merely following their country's ancient laws by allowing anyone that has conquered one of the Great Labyrinths safe passage after Hajime had shown him proof of having done so. Jin, however, refused to accept Ulfric's decision and decided to test Hajime's strength in order to prove the validity of his claim by immediately charging straight at him with his fists. Despite Jin's best efforts, Hajime effortless blocked Jin's attack and grabbed his fist with a strong enough grip that it managed to break Jin's arm (though Jin refused to scream in pain in order to preserve his pride). Hajime then countered with his own punch that he reinforced with his "Steel Arms" skill, as well as using a Blastrock cartridge embedded in the elbow of his prosthetic arm. His doubly-empowered fist sunk into Jin’s abdomen, sending him flying backwards at such speed that he wasn't even given enough time to scream as he crashed right through the tree wall of the council room, and fell to the ground. Only when he hit the ground did he finally start screaming. Although he survived, Jin had taken serious damage to his internal organs, and fractured almost every bone in his body. He had to be given copious amounts of rare and expensive healing medicine to keep him from succumbing to his wounds. While he would recover from the ordeal, his fighting days were over as a result.

Relationships

Regin Vanton

Regin was initially Jin's right-hand man, as well as his successor to lead the Vanton Clan. He greatly respects Jin and sought to avenge his defeat at the hands of Hajime.

Originally in the Light Novel, Hajime is approached by a squad of tigermen, who are lead by Gil, and does not fight any of them before meeting Verbergen's elders.
