Hide (ヒデ, Hide?) is a delinquent that Hajime Nagumo encountered before entering high school.
Appearance[]
Hide is an adult man with a large built, black hair that is dyed blond and piercings.
Personality[]
Initially, Hide acts like a typical diligent. He would be prone to violence and would threaten others. After being confronted by Hajime, Hide becomes a lot more polite and humble.
Chronology[]
Hide and two of his friends were threatening a young boy and his grandmother due to the boy having spilled takoyaki sauce on Hide pants. The grandmother offered to pay for his dry cleaning, but Hide demanded that she give him money so he could buy a new pair of pants instead. As the confrontation. escalated, Hide was suddenly approached by Hajime Nagumo, and tried to defend the boy and his grandmother by speaking up o their defence. Enraged, Hide demanded that Hajime give pay him 10,000. yen ($100) for the cleaning fee. After Hajime claimed that he didn't have the money, Hide grabbed him by the collar and threw him on the ground, before repeatedly kicking him. Hajime then offered another solution, to which Hide assumed that he wanted to fight, and was eager to do so. Instead, Hajime apologized to Hide while screaming at the top of his lungs, and followed up by prostrating himself in an exaggerated fashion. Hide was shocked at Hajime's sudden outburst, but after Hajime continued to make a spectacle of himself in public by making false statements that were disguised as pleading for mercy, all while grovelling to him. Embarrassed by all the attention he was getting, Hide tried to force Hajime to stop grovelling, but to no avail. Finally, he decided to take off before the situation would become more embarrassing for him.
Several years later, Hide and his friends attempted to hit on Hajime's lovers, but they just ignored them. In retaliation, Hide and his gang attempted to kidnap Hajime's adopted daughter Myu, but they were severely beaten by Hajime to the point that they prostrated themselves to him. Hajime decided to have Hide work for him and got him a job at a detective agency.

Hajime Nagumo[]
During their first encounter, Hide was. hostile towards Hajime and beaten him up. After Hajime's otherworldly adventure, he beaten up Hide for trying to kidnap Myu. Since the Hide, has shown his utmost respect towards Hajime whenever he sees him. Hajime even helped Hide get a job as an information broker, and has worked with Hajime a few times.
Etymology[]
- The name "Hide" is from 秀 (hide), shifted from hiide, the stem of verb 秀でる (hiideru) (Old Japanese hiidzu), meaning "to excel, surpass," which in turn is a combination of 穂 (ho>hi), meaning "ear/head (of plant); point, tip" and verb 出づ (idzu) (modern deru), meaning "to come out."
Trivia[]
- Hide's appearance differs in each adaptation. In the Manga, his head is shaved. In the Anime, he has spiky hair. In the Picture Dramas his hair is styled into a pompadour.
- In the Anime, the boy spilled ice cream on Hide's pants.
