Tortus - 'Zero' Timeline (LN)

The Haltina Republic was located deep within the Pale Forest on the eastern end of Tortus's mainland. The capital city was built around the Grand Tree Uralt, which was over 1,000 meters tall, and also served as the palace for republic's ruler. In addition, there were also numerous villages within the forest.

Ideology[]

As all beastmen were deemed inferior by the Holy Church, the republic vehemently opposed their religion and their god Ehit. Instead, they worshipped the Grand Tree, and by extension, all of nature. They also despised both humans and demons due to having been looked down upon by them for so long.

Military[]

The republic's military was comprised of various units. Their infantry unit was their largest.

History[]

Throughout the history of the republic, each of its rulers had been chosen through a powerful artifact known as the "Guardian Rod", which enabled its wielder to freely control the Grand Tree, manipulate the forest’s mist, and regenerate any damaged part of the forest. As such, they served as both the ruler of the republic and the protector of the Pale Forest.

The Holy Church had made multiple attempts to invade the republic, but had failed each time due to the mist that surrounded the forest that impaired their senses. At one point, however, they captured a half-wolf beastgirl named Shushu Corthea, and almost managed to breach the fog barrier thanks to magically compelling her to guide them, but they were ultimately pushed back by the republic's soldiers.

When the Holy Church learned that a person within the republic was in possession of Ancient Magic (who was actually the republic's current ruler Lyutillis Haltina), they launched a military campaign against them in order to capture the Ancient Magic user, and was placed under the command of their own Ancient Magic user: Holy Templar Knight Commander Laus Barn. To further aid in their objective, the church conscripted the military of the nearby Odion Federation. Despite having a much smaller force than the church, the republic was able to hold them back. This was due to the fog that surrounded the battlefield that impeded the senses of the enemy forces. Furthermore, the republic had also been aided by the Liberators Vice-Leader Badd Virtus. Even so, the republic was still at a disadvantage. After a month since the conflict began, the republic had allied with the leader of the Liberators Miledi Reisen, and her other companions that also possessed Ancient Magic. After another half a month of battle, both sides had reached a stalemate. In an attempt to win the war, the church solicited reinforcements from Grandort Empire and had them send a large fleet of airships to attack the republic. However, they were destroyed thanks to the efforts Oscar Orcus and Vandre Schnee. Despite this defeat, the church still had one more strategy to win. As they pushed for a final offensive, their most powerful ally, Ehit's apostle Ahat, snuck into the core of the Grand Tree and destroy it from within, thus stripping the republic of the fog barrier that served as a major tactical advantage for them. Although Ahat had managed to inflict serious damage to the Grand Tree, she was defeated by Miledi. Furthermore, the republic had managed to defeat many of the church's forces, and they were ultimately forced to retreat.

When Laus Barn defected from the church and joined the Liberators, thus gathering all seven Ancient MMagic users together, the republic was along those that aided the Liberators in their final bid to eliminate both the church and Ehit. Despite their initial success in defeating most of the church's forces, they were forced to retreat soon after when Ehit summoned a large army of apostles to attack them. In response to Liberators attack, Ehit had the apostles magically hypnotize the people of Tortus, and compelled them to kill the Liberators and their allies, including the republic. The Odion Federation sent over a million troops, that was comprised of both soldiers and civilians, to attack the beastman nation. They had managed to inflict serious casualties on the republic's forces, and were on the verge of eliminating them completely, but were stopped when Sharm Barn used the Holy Sword to control the Grand Tree and used its power to erect a massive fog barrier to push them back.

After the Liberators were ultimately defeated by Ehit, the Grand Tree was turned into one of seven labyrinths, to which Queen Lyutillis was forced to exile herself in for the rest of her life. A some point, the beastmen established a new nation within the forest, known as Verbergen.
