Darrion Kaus (ダリオン・カーズ, Darrion Kāzu?) was the first Hero of Tortus. After having been defeated by Ehit, he would come to serve his new master as the Commander of the Paladins of the Holy Church.
Appearance[]
Originally, Darrion had black hair.
During the age of the Liberators, Darrion appeared as an adult male with short brown hair and average looks to the point that he could have been easily forgettable. After his host body was killed by Laus, Darrion's new host body was that of a much younger man with white hair and red eyes.
After possessing the body of Lelaie Argeson in the aftermath of Operation Revolution Tolls, Darrion wore the pope's robes.
He later possessed the body of an apostle.
Personality[]
Initially, Darrion cared about protecting Tortus as its Hero. However, his devotion towards its goddess Uralt was of greater importance to him. It was to the point that he would sacrifice all his ideals in order to stay by her side; including serving his enemy Ehit.
Background[]
Darrion was born into a primitive tribe that resided by Tortus' Grand Tree Uralt. When a group of beings from another world came to Tortus and sought to conquer it, Darrion and his people fought back. To aid in their fight, Uralt bestowed Darrion a powerful sword, and granted him the title of "Hero." Furthermore, Darrion was trained and empowered by one of these otherworlders that wanted to peacefully co-exist with the people of Tortus.
During the war, Darrion and Uralt fought against Ehit at the grand tree. In an effort to defeat Ehit, Uralt transferred her soul into Darrion's sword. Furthermore, Darrion managed to utilize Concept Magic, the pinnacle of Ancient Magic, to create a powerful barrier to repel Ehit. In the end, however, Darrion was defeated, and was forced to pledge his loyalty to Ehit, in order to protect Uralt. Determined to be at Uralt's side, Darrion would use spirit magic to transfer his soul into another being, including every person that had been chosen to be the Hero, all while serving Ehit as the Commander of the Paladins of the Holy Church.
Chronology[]
When the leaders of the Holy Church were having a meeting to discuss a defeat they suffered from the Liberators at Andika, Darrion accompanied Pope Lucifer Slaine Elbard as he arrived after everyone else and remained by his side. Once the meeting was finished. Darrion continued to escort the pope as he and the church's new Oracle Ainz Arsalk had a private meeting with the Templar Knights' Commander Laus Barn.
Darrion and the Paladins would later arrive near the Pale Forest, where the church's forces were battling both the Liberators and the Haltina Republic. As the church were starting to lose their momentum, Darrion ordered their forces to retreat in the name of Ehit, to which they complied without question. Oscar Orcus and Lyutillis Haltina were about to attack the retreating members of the church, but Laus intervened and warned them of Darrion and the other Paladins's abilities. Ultimately, the church managed to escape without incident.
Soon after then war, when Laus was preparing to take his family and flee with them to join the Liberators, he saw his youngest son Sharm being escorted by the rest of his family, Darrion, and several other knights. Sharm had been severely injured due to the church attempting to brainwash him into loyally serving Ehit, but had failed to do so. As Laus attempted to free his son and escape, Darrion attacked him with the butt of his Divine Spear Longinus artifact. Laus blocked the blow with his hammer, then used his "Solid Specter" spell to project his soul out of his body in order to attack the knights hat were restraining Sharm. Darrion attempted to stab Laus’ body while it was unoccupied, but Laus stalled him with a Soul Shock and reunited his flesh with his spirit. The moment he returned, Laus sent out chains of light to grab Sharm and pull him over, while keeping Darrion at bay with his hammer. Laus healed Sharm and then handed him off to his personal guard Reinheit Ashe so that the two of them could escape while he would hold off Darrion and the rest of church's forces. Reinhart attacked Darrion with a "Celestial Flash" spell before escaping with Sharm under his arm.
As Reinheit and Sharm were fleeing, Darrion attacked Reinheit by stabbing him with his Divine Spear. Darrion then offered to spare Reinheit if he handed over Sharm, but he refused out of his own desire to help those that were in need of help. Darrion effortlessly managed to severely injure Reinheit and proceeded to capture Sharm by grabbing the scruff of his shirt and headed back to the church. It was then that Reinheit somehow managed to awaken a hidden power within him and prompted Darion's other weapon, the Holy Sword Uralt, to approach him on its own. It managed to heal him, and gave him the strength to fight back against Darion. As Reinheit charged in with his new weapon, Darrion managed to block him with his Divine Spear. The battle soon ended with both of them mortally wounding each other with a single stab. Reinheit used his remaining strength to tell Sharm to head out and find the person that had inspired Laus to stand up against the church. As Sharm was about to follow Reinheit's wish and head out, he was blocked by Darrion, who still had enough life left in him to fight, and was prepared to kill both of them, but Laus arrived at the last second after having escaped the church's forces (at the cost of his left arm) and killed him with a lethal punch in the face. However, Darrion managed to survive by transferring his soul into another body. To avoid any confusion among the members of the church over Darrion's survival, the Pope claimed that Darrion's current host was actually the real Darrion, and the person that Laus killed was a body double.
Sometime later, Darrion broke up an argument between Lilith Arkind and Mulm Allridge over the latter accusing the former of losing faith with the church due to her past feelings towards Laus.

In the aftermath of "Operation Revolution Tolls", a gravely injured Lelaie Argeson was being healed by several Templar Knights. As she regained consciousness, she immediately asked the other knights to debrief her on the battle's outcome. After being briefed, she allowed the knights to continue healing her. However, Darrion soon attack her from within and sought to possess her body with spirit magic. Unaware of what was happening, the other knights attempted to help Lelaie with their healing magic as she was writhing in pain, but Darrion destroyed her spirit and took over her body. He was later promoted as the new Pope.
When the people of Tortus were hypnotized by Ehit into killing the Liberators, Darrion clashed with Reinheit. Reinheit was at first taken down, but he eventually unlocked the derivative skill, "True Martyr", to successfully killed Darrion at the cost of his life; the Holy Sword Uralt prevented his soul to escape and definitely ended his life.
