Beastmen/Demi-Humans (亜人族,Ajin-zoku?) are one of the three primary races of Tortus. It is a collective term for various non-human races that possess human-like characteristics.
The differences between beastmen and humans may be obvious, such as a tail and animal ears, or inconspicuous, such as pointed ears. One common trait among all beastmen is that they are generally incapable of using magic due to their inability to wield mana.
Beastmen have varying lifespans, with some races such as rabbitmen, being comparable to humans, while others such as elves can live for centuries.
Depending on their individual race, a beastman's stats can range from 300 to 600.[1]
Beastmen are capable of procreating with other races. Furthermore, some mixed-race beastmen could use magic, but usually not with much proficiency.[2]
As with every other race in Tortus, beastmen were originally humans that were magically altered by Ehit in an attempt to create an everlasting body for his soul to reside in.
Society[]
Beastmen were generally seen as inferior by most other beings due to their inability to use magic, and were often persecuted for it. As a result of this harsh treatment, most of them lived in the Sea of Trees, which was surrounding by a fog barrier that made it impossible for most beings to navigate, other than beastmen. As a result, it protected them from being attacked from other races. They had even establish a nation called Verbergen for all of them to coexist.
Each community of beastman was very tight-nit. They cared very much for each other, and the adults treated the children as if they were their own.
As beastmen did not possess magic, they did not worship the Gods of Tortus, that were rumored to have blessed other races with mana. Beastman instead choose to worship nature.
In modern times, a beastman that was born with the ability to wield mana were considered to be "cursed," and would be executed (along with anyone that was harbouring them).
