Baius D. Hoelscher (バイアス・D・ヘルシャー, Baiusu D. Herushā?) was the crowned prince of the Hoelscher Empire and betrothed to Princess Liliana S. B. Heiligh.

Appearance

Baius looked like a younger version of his father, but he had olive-green eyes and dark green hair that was styled into a mohawk with a strand of it styled into a ponytail and dyed pink.

Personality

Baius was vulgar and violent. He was a vicious, vindictive, and sadistic man who loved lording over people, and saw women as nothing more than playthings for him.

Like everyone in the empire, Baius was prejudiced towards beastmen.

Background

Baius was born to one of his father's concubines, but gained the right of succession due to being stronger than the rest of his siblings. At around age 16, Baius conceived his son Raymond with an unknown woman. At some point, Baius was arranged to marry Princess Liliana S. B. Heiligh of the Heiligh Kingdom, despite already having several mistresses.

Chronology

Baius' engagement to Liliana was to be officially announced at the empire's imperial palace as a sign of unity after both nations were invaded by an army of demons.

During the evening before the party, Baius barged into Princess Liliana's room while she was getting dressed and demanded that all her attendants leave them. Against her servants' wishes, Liliana ordered them to comply with Baius' order and they left the princess alone with him. He was almost about to rape her, but she was saved by the intervention of Hajime's arachnae golem. It knocked him out and injected him with a serum that made him impotent. Liliana convinced Baius to behave during the party by telling him that it was the only way get the cure for the serum. After entering together and sharing their first dance, Liliana ignored Baius and interacted with Hajime and his companions. Baius, meanwhile, was mingling with other guests, as well as his mistresses. The party was soon interrupted by the Haulia Tribe after they had infiltrated the palace. They killed many of the guests in order for Emperor Gahard D. Hoelscher to agree to their demands regarding abolishing the slavery of all beastmen in the empire. Gahard initially refused their terms, to which the Haulia Tribe responded by beheading more of the party guests one by one. They eventually worked their way towards killing Baius after he threatened them with his last breath.

Relationships

Liliana S. B. Heiligh

Liliana is disgusted at the thought of having to marry Baius, but is willing to put her feelings aside for the political necessity of it. Baius is eager to destroy Liliana's serious and dignified appearance and would love to see her in agony and sorrow from his actions. Liliana, however, will not give Baius the satisfaction of causing her pain by his actions, and will continue to stand up for herself as best as she can. This defiance only encourages Baius to be even more cruel to Liliana.

Power & Abilities

  • Expert Combatant - Baius has earned his title as the crowned prince of the Hoelscher Empire by besting the rest of his siblings through combat.

Quotes

  • (To Liliana): "Nothing brings me more pleasure in life than trampling and humiliating those who oppose me. I just love seeing their defiant expressions crumble as they realize how powerless they are. Making fools like you kneel before me is truly the height of ecstasy. Ever since I first tasted this exhilaration, I’ve been addicted. Liliana, from the moment we first met, when you glared so fiercely at me, I knew that I had to make you mine and break you."[1]
  • (His last words): "Let me go! Do you know who I am, you filthy beasts!? I’ll kill you, you fucking bastards! I’ll kill you all! You hear— Gah!"[1]

Trivia

  • Hoelscher is an English language surname derivative, primarily used in the United States. Its origins are from the North German "Hölscher," the occupational name for a maker of clogs (wooden shoes), which in turn comes from the Middle Low German "holsche" (prefix holt- meaning "wood"; suffix -scho meaning "shoe"; with the agent noun suffix "-er"). The name is strongly associated with Westphalia in Germany, although it is also associated with the Netherlands. Bearers of the name almost universally descend from individuals originally from the Paderborn region of Westphalia or the Netherlands.
  • Baius' Japanese voice actor Minoru Shiraishi also voiced Daisuke Hiyama.
